There are many interest places in the Province of Lasithi such as: Agios Nikolaos- the capital of the prefecture - Elounda, Ierapetra- 36km to the south and Sitia, 70km to the east.
There are many sandy beaches both on the north and south coast of the prefecture. On the Lasithi Plateau the spectacle of 10,000 windmills is unique. Here is the renowned Diktaean Cave, the cave where, according to mythology, Zeus was born. On the northeast end of the prefecture is Vai, the fabulous sand beach embraced by palm trees.
On the beautiful Gulf of Merabello here is Agios Nikolaos, the capital of the prefecture of Lasithi, the leading tourist centre in Crete. The picturesque harbour with the countless rowboats lined up next to each other and the houses built around it, lend it a special beauty. Furthermore, the harbour and the sea with its gorgeous shores are features, which impress the visitor.
